Under /options/display options/opengl options/preferences:Īdjust sprite clipping: always - corpses sink into the ground if you don't change this for opengl ports that give you all the nice dynamic lighting effects. You can keybind a run button if you want. I like auto-run on as well, but that is me. It adapts well if you make sure to turn off auto-aim in options/player setup. Some purists would argue going vanilla, but even I can't stand playing DooM without WASD and mouselook at this point. Would recommend playing as standalone (with a source port) or with Brutal DooM. Then I heard about Brutal DooM and played through it again with it. DooM II was one of the first, and still favorite video games I ever played. Classic game with a little easier modern interface plus some nice bells and whistles.Īs for Brutal Doom: it changes the balance and gameplay a bit, but not that much. At this point, I advocate newcomers use a source port such as Zandronum or gZDooM along with a launcher like ZDL for singleplayer for two reasons: it makes loading addons easy as hell and you get nice additions such as mouse look and dynamic lighting.

#Brutal doom 2 install#
In any case, in order to install Brutal Doom, you'll need GZDoom (You can also use other source ports, like Zandronum). Considering the price for a digital copy of Doom 2, and the amount of content accumulated, you'll be getting a lot of value for your money. This game has more than 20 years of modding behind it, so there's a lot to explore. There are also tons of amazing levels (Brutal Doom does not provide any new levels to the game).
#Brutal doom 2 mods#
Keep in mind that there are other mods that change up the gameplay in Doom besides Brutal doom. There are patches to remove or add features from Brutal Doom, so that's really no problem. While I like the most of it, I'm not a fan of the "cinematic" finishing moves, because I dislike how it takes away control from the gameplay for a few moments. Brutal Doom makes very extreme changes to the gameplay, by changing and adding weapon functionality, changes monster behavior and capabilities, adds new power ups, etc. But I've been playing it for the last 20 years, so I might be biased.
